Table dynamics & reads over time

Every chart in this course describes play against strangers. Real sessions accumulate history: showdowns reveal hands, bluffs get caught, nits tighten further after being shown a bluff. Table dynamics is the discipline of updating for that history — both the opponents' image and YOUR OWN. The mechanism is always the same one the Exploiting-a-known-read page formalizes: an observed deviation moves someone's fold, call, or bluff frequencies, and the profitable response moves your thresholds in the opposite direction.

  1. Log events, not vibes."Showed down top pair twice in 40 hands" is evidence; "he seems loose" is weather.
  2. Respect the sample.A few hands move thresholds barely at all; confidence scales with repetitions of the SAME line.
  3. Track your own image.After shown bluffs expect wider calls — value-bet thinner and bluff less; after shown nits expect folds.
  4. Set the revert trigger.Decide in advance what observation would retire the read, so stale adjustments die fast.

Worked example: image transfer in one orbit

You got caught triple-barreling ten minutes ago; the table saw it. The next time your river shove goes in, the same players who folded before now stare at middle pair. Your RANGE didn't change — their belief about it did, and belief is what pays off bluffs. The correct adjustment runs forward too: with your bluffing credibility spent, shift the same spots toward thin value, because the calls you'll receive are worse hands than the baseline assumes. Reverse the story after you've shown down nothing but premiums for an hour — folds widen, and the charts' bluff frequencies start printing again.
